Miss Samantha
At 29 years old, Sam is one of the youngest Vergers fielded by the Healing Order, but she is eager to prove to everyone she is capable. She is torn between her loyalty to the Order and the growing distrust of those around her.
Kess ("The Wolfe")
Many years Samantha's senior at 51 years old, she is Sam's field partner, bodyguard, mentor, and a fierce fighter who won't give up.
Her emotional detachment confuses some.
Miss Ilsa
Viewed by Samantha as her rival since their time in the Healer and Verger training programs at the Order, she is the picture of southern charm to everyone.
Alice Lin
Only 16 years old, she and her classmates were caught on a field trip when the apocalypse happened. After wandering between settlements over the next few years, she is able to put her knowledge of healing herbs to good use when she meets Miss Samantha.
Teal Parsons
Always the go-between, he acts as liaison between the Healing Order and the settlements of survivors near the Healing Order. His interests are clear, though they don't necessarily align with everyone else's.

Miss Julia
She and her husband, Kevin, had a vision to help people after the apocalypse happened, a vision she carries on after losing him.
She stands as the backbone of the Healing Order.
Scott Winger
Son of the founder, 22 year old Scott has trained in many different guilds within the Order though he hasn't decided where he fits. Part Healer, part Defender, and part Protector, he is always eager to help.
Kelly Winger
Adopted daughter of Julia, she is the sister Scott always wanted, but she is a child in an adult's body.
Her ferocity as a fighter has balanced against her naivety, borne of her mysterious past.
Miss Maxine
A former nurse at Kevin's medical practice, she has stood beside the Wingers from the beginning. She applies her medical knowledge as the head Healer in the Order.
Brother Brodi
Leading the field training for Defenders and Protectors in the Order, Brodi trains the paramilitary wing of the Order. His goal is always to protect Julia, his childhood friend.
He has a complicated relationship with Kess.
The Transportation Guild
Sarita Canmore
After their split with the Order, she and her husband Steve had continued to lead the transport wing of the Order independently, known as the Transportation Guild.

As a calm and insightful leader, he and Sarita manage relationships between Guild members as they transport goods and supplies between settlements.
Isabel Canmore
The eldest Canmore daughter, she serves the Guild loyally, though she wishes they could be reunited with the Order and her handsome 'cousin,' Scott.
Almeda Canmore
At 18 years old, she lives in her older sister's shadow, working hard for their parent's attention. She also pines for her cute childhood friend, Scott.

The forceful leader of the team, Marsh is careful to keep everyone in line without lording it over them.

This gentle giant is stronger than he looks, and if he ever realizes that, everyone around him will be a lot safer.
